A few years ago we put together an emergency water supply. We thankfully haven't needed to use it, but it is a good idea to have one in case of a natural disaster or city water emergency.
I didn't want to use plastic to store our water in, so we collected as many glass apple juice containers as we could. The water in these jugs should be changed occasionally, so to remember to do so I change it out with the seasons, thus we put fresh water in four times a year. The water in the jugs does not go to waste, it will be used to water plants, inside or out, or to fill the washing machine.
Anybody else have an emergency water supply? How do you store or manage yours?

Hi..Just found your blog as you called in at mine. I don't have a huge emergency water supply, but we do get a lot of water cuts here so I keep two or three 5 litre plastic bottles filled up at all times. Plastic's not ideal but it's OK in the short term. I do change the water often though and of course use it for watering the garden.
ReplyDeleteThese blog is really very great. That can have huge emergency water supply The water in these jugs should be changed occasionally, so to remember to do so I change it out with the seasons, thus we put fresh water in four times a year. The water in the jugs does not go to waste.
ReplyDeleteEmergency water supply...check! We have needed it the last 2 winters when we lost power for 6 days each winter (along with water, heat and lights!). Such good advice and I laughed because I mentioned that in my latest blog post, too :*). And your garden is looking fabulous! ~Vonnie NH
ReplyDeleteVonnie, we must be thinking alike. That is good, having water set aside is important.

I always keep 20 gallons of water in my pantry and increase this to 40 gallons during hurricane season. If your water dept needs to fix a pipe, they give out BOIL WATER warnings on the same day they cut the water off. Lesson learned.
